Chloe Dickson: Living with allergies, finding confidence, and raising awareness
For thousands of people, a food allergy is an inconvenience. For Chloe Dickson,
it has shaped her entire life, inspired her advocacy, and given her a mission others can look up to.
Chloe lives with severe peanut allergies and anaphylaxis, a condition that can cause life-threatening reactions with even the smallest exposure. She has worn a MedicAlert ID since she was just five years old and today she uses her experience to help others feel safer and understand their own journeys better.
Why Chloe Trusts MedicAlert
“I am a MedicAlert member because I have multiple food allergies and have experienced multiple anaphylactic shocks throughout my life. MedicAlert supports me in my day-to-day life and brings me great reassurance. If I were to have another anaphylactic shock, I know my MedicAlert would speak for me in an emergency. It gives me invaluable peace of mind.”
For Chloe, MedicAlert is not just an ID, it is a lifeline and a silent protector she carries every day. Her condition is not always visible so having accurate medical information available to first responders when she can not speak offers her and her loved ones real reassurance.
A Lifetime of Wearing Her ID
Chloe’s MedicAlert ID has been constant through life’s many stages. It is part of her daily routine, and part of how she stays prepared for the unexpected.
Reassurance in Every Day
“MedicAlert has a big impact on my day-to-day life. It gives me constant reassurance, like a silent safety net that’s always there. Living with severe food allergies means there’s always some level of risk, especially when I’m out alone or eating out. Wearing my MedicAlert ID makes me feel more confident and less anxious about the ‘what if’.”
Chloe describes a freedom that might surprise people who do not live with allergies. The reassurance that comes from knowing her vital information is available in a crisis allows her to live more fully, from socialising with friends to travelling abroad.
“Knowing that paramedics can quickly access my full medical record in an emergency gives me huge peace of mind. It means I’m never truly alone in a crisis, my MedicAlert speaks for me.
It’s also sparked conversations about my allergies, helping raise awareness and making it easier to explain my condition. Overall, it gives me confidence and the freedom to live my life more fully.”
Being a Voice for Others
“Being a voice for MedicAlert means more to me than I can fully put into words. I am so incredibly proud to represent an organisation that has been by my side my entire life. As I said, I’ve worn my MedicAlert ID since I was five years old, so to now be in a position where I can advocate for them feels truly special and full circle.”
For Chloe, advocacy is not just personal, it is purposeful.
“Raising awareness for people like myself, living with multiple severe food allergies, is something I am deeply passionate about. I know how frightening and isolating it can feel at times, and if sharing my story helps even one person feel seen, understood, or safer, then that means everything to me.
To play even a small part in such an amazing and supportive community is something I’ll never take for granted. The opportunities MedicAlert has given me have been incredible, and I feel so grateful to be trusted with sharing my voice. I’m excited to keep raising awareness, continuing this journey, and having MedicAlert by my side every step of the way.”
About MedicAlert
MedicAlert is the first and only charity provider of medical IDs and life-saving medical ID services. Members receive a custom-made ID linked to their detailed medical record, plus a 24/7 emergency helpline so first responders can access vital health information when every second counts.
That combination of everyday reassurance and emergency readiness is why people like Chloe wear their MedicAlert IDs with confidence and why they encourage others with hidden medical conditions to think about how protection and preparedness can make a real difference.
I have been wearing my MedicAlert ID since I was just 5 years old — I’m 27 now. My mum got it for me when I was starting school, and I’ve worn it ever since. I’ve grown up with it by my side, through childhood, my teenage years, and now into adulthood. I never take it off..
